Cervical spondylosis Management and Physiotherapy
Cervical spondylosis refers to the deterioration of vertebrae, disc and ligaments of neck. Cervical vertebrae meaning the vertebrae of neck region. The condition is also referred to as degenerative osteoarthritis. There is development of bony outgrowth from the edges of vertebrae and thinning of disc resulting in reduced ability of shock absorbance.
Symptoms of cervical spondylosis includes swelling in neck joints, facet joints, tingling sensation in hands. Muscles weakness, radiating pain and reduced range of motion of spine are some additional symptoms of cervical spondylosis.
Despite the severe pain and reduced muscle motion range, the symptoms of cervical spondylosis can be released with help of physical therapy. Neck stretching exercises help to ease the neck stiffness and pain. Other isometric exercises as tailored by physiotherapist can help regain the lost range of motion of neck, Regular exercises along with hot/cot packs and neck braces under severe condition keep the patients away from need of surgical treatments. Muscle strengthening and stretching exercises increase the muscle flexibility and ease the pain. These exercises even help the patients to suffer from possible severe pain in future.
